The superficial characters in the story, The Importance of Being Earnest, fall in love with each other for other reasons than love itself. The importance of the family tradition would include, money, fame, the names glint of wonder, and the wealth of all their past ancestors. This and this alone meets the criteria for these four lovers. So the questions remain throughout the story, will these couples prosper unbroken and sturdy through lifeââ¬â¢s vigorous struggles? Jack Worthing has managed to always get whatever he wanted in life. Unfortunately, this time ââ¬Å"Jack must scramble to reconcile these two worlds, (Ern est / Jack Worthing), he has created for himself and to ultimately receive his full desires by asking Gwendolen Farifax for her hand in marriage, and to finally understand himself.â⬠(Plot Overview) But first he must confess to Gwendolen his real name, Jack Worthing and not Ernest. Unfortunately, for Jack, Gwendolenââ¬â¢s only wants to marry Ernest Worthing, not the man, but the name ââ¬Å"Ernest.â⬠In her eyes the name represents ââ¬Å"Inspires absolute confidenceâ⬠. Growing up in London, and raised as an elitists of high society in one of the finest families in London.
