The superficial characters in the story, The Importance of Being Earnest, fall in love with each other for other reasons than love itself. The importance of the family tradition would include, money, fame, the names glint of wonder, and the wealth of all their past ancestors. This and this alone meets the criteria for these four lovers. So the questions remain throughout the story, will these couples prosper unbroken and sturdy through life’s vigorous struggles?
